Guitarist Ariel Hernandez has been making waves on the local scene since his arrival on here from Argentina a few short months ago. In that time he has played the Bray Jazz Festival and the Pendulum as well as making his debut at the Boom Boom Room in March. Constantly in search of new collaborations, he returns to the BBR to showcase new material in the esteemed company of Russian violin maestro Oleg Ponomarev. Their set will feature mostly Argentinean Folk and Tango, but also Jazz material and Gypsy music delivered with gusto by these two expert exponents of their local folk genres.

Hernandez studied jazz in his native country from a very young age at various conservatories and he has shared the stage with artists such as Ariel Ramirez, Domingo Cura, Sun Rocha and Veronica Condomi.

Ponomarev is a consummate musician who has won many international awards and composes for film and television as well as playing live. Among his film scores is the soundtrack for “Onegin”, starring Ralph Fiennes. Ponomarev’s virtuosity as a violinist first came to the attention of Irish audiences with his band “Loyko”, which toured globally during the nineties.

As well as recording four albums with Loyko and tracks with Ron Woods and Charlie Watts from the Rolling Stones, Oleg has been invited to play for Yehudi Menuhin, Placido Domingo, Michael Caine, Ravi Shankar and Sean Connery, among others. His intense, swaggering stage presence and masterful violin playing has won him both fans and critical acclaim all over the world.

Argentinean vocalist Marianela Gulizia will be accompanying the duo as guest to ensure an evening of world music that is certainly world class.
